# 6 indigo - the third eye

The next level is the third eye chakra, situated in the middle of the forehead just above the eyes, where the blue deepens to indigo. Nestled beneath a delicate membrane, like the vulva hiding the female sexual gateway, it conceals the portal to true wisdom; the enlightened self within. It is seeing in the true sense of the word, not just perception. Here likes the seat of our intuitive insight, the part of us that knows all things on a pre-conscious level. As we mentioned above the solar plexus is sometimes seen as the male centre of power, and the third eye being its female counterpart. The true warrior knows that he has no power unless he can ‘see’.

The sixth chakra forever dwells in the Now, and being thus in the present moment it is unchanging. This chakra, which is also associated with the pineal gland in the neocortex, completes the fourth, so only by fully knowing the heart can we open the third eye and see correctly. The relationship pattern here is the one we have with ourselves. Odd as it may strike some, the most important relationship we will ever have is with ourselves. Common ailments here may be cataracts, or general myopia.

We are well past the visceral now so we can’t really talk of ‘feeling’ fear or pain in the same way as in the gut. However, fear at this level manifests as doubt, and can be just as debilitating. If we are not tuned into our intuitive feelings we will, no matter how well balanced in other areas, sabotage ourselves through doubt and lack of self belief.

It’s easy to believe in things we see, that have been demonstrated to us, but to believe in a ‘reality beyond the visible' requires real insight. This won’t come about just from ‘working on ourselves’, reading books and the like. We must go ‘inside’ ourselves to do this work. How often we berate ourselves or others for not ‘seeing what’s in front of our eyes’, when actually, what’s in front of our eyes is mere ‘perception’, that which I perceive to be there before me because my senses tell me so. True seeing comes from the third eye. Jesus speaks about the third eye,

The light of the body is the eye: IF THEREFORE THINE EYE BE SINGLE, THY WHOLE BODY SHALL BE FULL OF LIGHT. (Matt. 6:22).

It is good to work with your third eye when doing visualization and when working on your goals, as this chakra has the ability to laser in on desired outcomes and objectives with great precision. The sixth chakra can bring the future into the present. But of course it must be clear. We all grow into our sixth chakra gradually, and only over time is the third eye fully opened. The third eye is the hidden chakra and most people will never fully use it, certainly not to its full potential, although we activate it partly when we use our intuition. It is one of the most important because it is ‘feeling’ at a far more subtle level than the gut can ever do. And it’s the gateway to true insight.
